New Scripts

Cold calling scripts that sound human (6 examples you can adapt)

Six cold calling scripts for B2B, real estate, insurance, agencies and startups, plus how to handle the most common objections without sounding like a robot.

The best cold calling scripts don't sound like scripts. They're a structure you know so well that you can stop reading and actually listen. Here's that structure, six examples built on it, and answers to the objections you'll hear most.

The structure: who you are, why them, why now, one question, and a small ask. Fifteen seconds to earn the next thirty.

The five-part structure

  1. Who you are. Name and company, said plainly. No "How are you today?"
  2. Why them. One specific reason you called this person, not anyone.
  3. Why now. Something that makes the call timely: a change, a season, a trigger.
  4. One question. Open, about their world, not your product.
  5. A small ask. Fifteen minutes, not a demo, not a contract.

A permission-based opener, such as "I'm calling out of the blue. Can I take 30 seconds to tell you why, and you can decide if we keep talking?", tends to lower the guard of people who hate cold calls. Test it against your own direct opener.

1. B2B (SaaS or services)

"Hi Jordan, it's Alex from Northwind. I'm calling because you're hiring three SDRs this quarter, and when teams scale outbound that fast, follow-up is usually the first thing to slip. How are your reps handling call notes and callbacks today?" (listen) "That's common. Would it be worth 15 minutes on Thursday to show you how other teams your size handle it? If it's not a fit, I'll tell you."

2. Real estate (expired listing)

"Hi Pat, this is Sam with Harbor Realty. I saw your home on Maple came off the market this week, and I'm sorry it didn't sell. Are you still thinking about moving, or have plans changed?" (if still moving) "Would it help if I came by for 20 minutes and showed you what I think held it back? No obligation, just a second opinion."

3. Insurance (policy review)

"Hi Chris, it's Morgan from Lakeside Insurance. I'm calling homeowners in your area because rates changed a lot this year and many people are overpaying without knowing. When did you last compare your home policy?" (listen) "I can run a quick comparison in 10 minutes. Would tomorrow at 4 or Thursday at 11 be better?"

4. Agency booking for a client

"Hi Taylor, I'm Riley, calling on behalf of BrightPath Solar. They're offering free roof assessments in your neighborhood this month. Have you ever looked into solar for your home?" (listen) "The assessment takes about 30 minutes and there's no cost. I can put you down for Saturday morning or Monday evening. Which works better?"

5. Startup founder calling early customers

"Hi Avery, I'm Jamie, the founder of a small company called Tidy. I'm not going to pitch you; I'm trying to learn how operations leads at clinics handle appointment reminders today. Would you give me 10 minutes of your honest opinion?"

Founders calling to learn get far more yeses than founders calling to sell. More on that in cold calling for startups.

6. Calling back after "not now"

"Hi Drew, it's Alex from Northwind. When we spoke in March you said to try you after your busy season. Is now a better time to look at how your team handles follow-ups?"

This is the easiest script on the page, and it only works if someone wrote down what Drew said in March.

Handling the common objections

ObjectionWhat it usually meansTry
"I'm busy."Bad timing, or a brush-off"Totally fair. When's a better time this week? I'll call then."
"Just send me an email."Polite exit, sometimes real"Happy to. So I send the right thing, what's your biggest headache with X right now?"
"We already have someone."Status quo is fine"Makes sense. What would you change about it if you could?"
"Not interested."Not now, or not ever"Understood. Is it the timing, or is this just not a problem for you?"
"How did you get my number?"Trust questionAnswer honestly, and offer to remove them if they'd like.
"Take me off your list."Do-not-call requestApologize, confirm, and actually remove them today.

What happens after the script

The script ends; the work doesn't. Whatever the call produced (a meeting, a callback, a "send info") needs to be written down and acted on, or the call was wasted. See how to follow up after a cold call for templates for every outcome.

Afterdial takes care of that last mile: it captures the outcome and the next step from the call itself, then books, reminds or schedules the callback for you.

FAQ

How long should a cold calling script be?

The opener should take about 15 seconds. The whole script fits on one page, because most of the call should be you listening.

Should you read a cold call script word for word?

Not once you've practiced it. Learn the structure and the key lines, then talk like a person. Reading sounds like reading.

What is the best opening line for a cold call?

Your name, your company and a specific reason you're calling this person. Specific beats clever every time.

Afterdial does the after-call work for you.

It listens through your dialer, logs the outcome, books the meeting, sends the reminders and lines up callbacks.
